The various manual processes involved in making each Randoseru. It is all about "made in Japan from scratch," with even the small parts manufactured in Japan. Among these, the ones that are made by hand-stitching, which requires skill, are durable from the beginning. Hand-stitching is done using thick and durable thread, especially at the base of the belt where stress is applied. The leather and thread are tightened by the hands of craftsmen, making it extremely durable.
Crafting Randoseru (Kawasuki)
Kawasuki (皮漉き) is a vital part of crafting every Randoseru and backpack. The thicker the leather, the more durable it becomes, yet an improper thickness can lead to extra weight or rigidity that hinders processing
Craftsmen use their specialised skills and experience to carefully assess the softness and surface condition of each piece of leather, handcrafting and fine-tuning it to the perfect thickness. Transforming a single part into a leather bag involves adding angles, grooves, and sometimes sanding in three key areas.
Premium leather materials
We assess the characteristics of the leather, which differs in thickness and hardness, and decide which part of the leather bag it will be used on. We then carry out shaping, eather cutting, hand sewing and other processes to give the leather bag its shape. We did not process the parts to make them any thinner than necessary, but instead took advantage of the firm tension inherent in the leather to create the leather bag. All materials are easy to clean and there is no need to use troublesome leather creams. We also take the raw hides from cows and horses for food, making them environmentally friendly.
Top skill "kizami"
The corners of the bottom, which tend to collide with the ground or walls and need to be strong, are made durable by gathering the fabric around the corners using a technique called "kizami". There are no notches on the opposite side of the back, and the fabric is taut and beautiful. Since more folds are concentrated on one side, a high level of skill is required.
